Alastair Humphreys has created the concept of microadventures – an adventure that is short, simple, local, cheap – yet still fun, exciting, challenging, refreshing and rewarding. As the world’s population becomes increasingly urbanised, busy, and stuck in front of a screen, microadventures offer a realistic escape to wilderness, simplicity and the great outdoors, without the need to ski to the South Pole or go live in a cabin in Patagonia. I believe one can push ones comfort zone and create well-being by even smaller “expeditions” than microadventures – therefore the name #NanoEx. NanoEx is about doing daily things with a twist – taking short hikes with your family in the forests, cooking in the nature with a camp stove, or for example, swimming, kayaking or skiing to work - always pushing your own comfort zone a bit. Each of them is a small expedition requiring some preparation, some planning and some safety measures. But even as an executive and a father of two young kids I have wanted to invest my time this way. Each time it has paid off to see how these small NanoExes inspire others. And they boost my energy levels for many days.
